The Saints & Scholars, Celebrating Catholic Schools Dinner & Awards Ceremony is the Catholic Schools' signature fundraising event. The Saints & Scholars Gala is a beloved community tradition and the catalyst for the transformation of students, families and communities in Central Texas. Each year nearly 700 Catholic leaders in education, business, parishes and friends gather to support the Diocese of Austin's mission of putting Catholic education within reach for students of all backgrounds.
Enjoy a visual representation of the power of Catholic education through the lenses of a teacher serving in one of our Catholic schools.
Don Baldovin, a native of Wisconsin, attended both public and Catholic schools. From a family with limited financial means, he was able to attend the University of Wisconsin because he received a substantial scholarship, graduating with Honors with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering. In a 41-year career with Amoco Corporation, he had assignments in Chicago, New York, London, Tehran, Denver, and Houston, earned a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Chicago, and attended an Executive Development Program at Cornell University. He has had a lifelong focus on learning and education. At the University of Wisconsin, he endowed two undergraduate scholarships, a Graduate Fellowship, and the Baldovin-DaPra Professorship in Chemical and Biological Engineering to honor his family's names.
Mr. Baldovin has traveled extensively throughout his life, working or visiting in all 50 states and more than 130 countries. Currently residing in Austin, he is an active member of Saint Mary Cathedral.
