Dr. Ned Vanders, the superintendent of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Austin, is responsible for the operations of all elementary, middle and high schools in the Diocese of Austin. As the superintendent, he acts as a representative on behalf of the Bishop on all school-related issues. Dr. Vanders’ duties range from meetings with administrators and teachers, overseeing development and implementation of policy, curriculum and school improvements, to visiting children at schools in the classroom.

Dr. Vanders brings 41 years of experience in Catholic education to the Catholic schools office at the Diocese of Austin. Prior to the Diocese of Austin, Dr. Vanders was a school principal in the Diocese of Dallas. With a rich background in education, he has previously served as a high school Theology and English teacher, a university campus minister, a dean of students, and principal of elementary, middle and high schools.

Currently, Dr. Vanders is an ex officio member of the 23 Catholic School Boards in the Diocese and is a commissioner for the Texas Catholic Conference Accreditation Commission (TCCAC), which accredits all Texas Catholic schools.  Dr. Vanders holds a B.A. in English from Western Michigan University, an M.A. in Theology from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota, a M.Ed. in School Administration from the University of North Texas and an Ed.D. in Catholic School Administration from the Institute for Catholic Educational Leadership at the Jesuit University of San Francisco.
